‘The Side of Rhythm’ is a story about human rhythm in the society we live in. Rhythm is not only found in music. The human rhythm also changes depending on the pitch of the voice, the speed and slowness of the footsteps, the speed of the breathing, and the pattern of movement. ‘The Side of Rhythm’ is the third work in the Rhythm series that analyzes the human rhythm that changes according to the various aspects of society.
In ‘The Side of Rhythm’, ‘side’ refers to one side of a group relatively. In society, we are required to be normal and pursue a balanced life. However, balance inevitably includes imbalance, and we encounter a ‘side’ that is tilted to one side.
‘The Side of Rhythm – Tilted Gaze’ focuses on the ‘gaze’ that looks at balance. A tilted body depends on the ‘gaze’ that looks at it. Depending on the gaze, the body can be tilted to one side or in a balanced state. This work focuses on how we look at the body in an event. What makes our bodies tilted? ‘The Side of Rhythm – Tilted Gaze’ explores the perception of balance that society looks at beyond the tilted gaze, and is a journey to find the rhythm of the body within it.
“The side of rhythm = the side that is leaning to one side, looking back at the leaning side (body). ”
“Where does rhythm come from? Where is it created?”
– Synopsis
1. Collapsed
The collapsed side. Horizontal stability is disintegrated, and vertical lines create cracks across the boundary. The fixed boundary between balance and imbalance is disintegrated.
2. Collapsed side
Those who try to maintain balance and those who try to go against it find their own rhythm and pass through an unfamiliar space.
3. Tilted body
Balance is created and then collapses, and what is seen changes depending on the gaze. The body creates a new space and swims through obstacles, boundaries, and events.
4. Transformed space
Space changes depending on the gaze, and the body explores, intersects, overlaps, and separates within it. The body finds and loses balance, but it depends on the gaze looking at the body.
5. Hidden appearance
Unseen bodies reveal their identities. They look at themselves beyond the external gaze, and look outside across the internal gaze. The gesture of not wanting to be trapped may seem dangerous, but perhaps that is the true form.
6. Freedom without boundaries
The obstacles that blocked the body disappear, and the effort to maintain balance collapses. The body yearns for freedom without boundaries, but the tilted gaze still remains.
